On February 24th, 1981 the engagement between His Royal Highness, Prince Charles of Wales, and Diana Spencer became official as Diana publically displayed the ring she personally chosen to symbolize their engagement.  Five months later a “fairytale wedding” occurred in front of a global television audience of almost 750 million people and within the next few years Diane was seen as a needed agent of change for an outdated monarchy.  Many saw her as an equal, a commoner who advocated for the rights of the people, a charitable woman and a woman unafraid to wear her heart on her sleeve.  She become known to the world, in her life and in her death, as the “People’s Princess.”

Almost thirty years later, on November 13th, 2010, another engagement was announced to the people.  Prince William, heir to the British throne and the eldest son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, announced his engagement to Miss Catherine Elizabeth Middletown.  Kate's story is of an everyday girl who met her Prince and will now one day becoming the Queen of England.  It is a modern day fairytale come true for one of the people.
